Join us for a hands-on typography design workshop led by Alanna Munro, founder of Arcane Type Foundry. Alanna brings a deep, obsessive love of letterforms to her practice, designing typefaces that balance historical reference with contemporary character — and she's bringing that same eye to Porchlight for an afternoon of exploration and design.
In this workshop, you'll start by browsing Porchlight's extensive and beautiful collection of wood type — decades of letterforms in a range of styles, weights, and eras. Pick one letter that speaks to you, then use it as your jumping-off point to sketch and design your own original typeface. Alanna will guide you through the fundamentals of letterform construction — stroke weight, proportion, counters, and rhythm — helping you develop an eye for typography as you shape your letter into a small type study of your own.
No design experience necessary — just curiosity and a willingness to look closely at the shapes of letters.

Materials & refreshments: All sketching materials and light refreshments provided. Come as you are — this is a working session, not a lecture.

Credits:
Credits are issued in the form of a gift certificate, it can go towards a future workshop, stationaries from our in house line or a custom print job with us. Credits must be used within one year from the date of the cancelled class.
