Platemaking Services

We produce our own photopolymer plates for letterpress printing here at Porchlight Press and offer platemaking services to other printers.

ABOUT THE PLATES

Metal Back KM 152: rigid, durable, ideal for long runs and demanding applications.
Plastic Back KF 152: lightweight, flexible, and includes adhesive film applied free of charge.

Pricing per Square Inch

  • 0–200 sq in: $1.15 per sq in
  • 200–600 sq in: $1.08 per sq in
  • 600–1000 sq in: $0.98 per sq in

There is a minimum order charge of 45 square inches. Anything under 45 square inches will be charged at the minimum of $50. Please note that the price does not include shipping or taxes.

Your File(s)

To ensure accurate output and smooth processing, we require the following for both platemaking and film printing:

  • Vector files (.ai, .eps, or AI-compatible PDF) or bitmap files (.bmp, .tiff)
  • Right reading artwork — we handle the reversing for you
  • All type must be outlined to avoid font substitution
  • All shapes must be 100% black (not registration color) or defined as a spot color
  • Printer's marks may be included as needed (optional)

Additional Requirements for Platemaking Only

  • Minimum line thickness: 0.5 pt (applies to both artwork and type)This is the minimum safe thickness to guarantee plate quality and avoid chipping or early degradation.

If your file is not print-ready, we're happy to process it for a $40 fee.

    • Please email your order to info@porchlightpress.com
    • When sending your file please include your mailing address and indicate whether you'd like to pick up your plate(s), ship with regular mail or ship expedited via Canada Post.
    • Once we review your file, we will send you an invoice; payment must be made before plate processing.
