Intro to Letterpress Printing | July 19, 2026

Are you interested in something crafty? Something inky? Have you ever been curious about how things were printed before the digital world, when every letter was set by hand and every impression was a small act of care?

Then join us for a letterpress printing workshop.

In this 4.5hr beginner-friendly class, our team of patient, knowledgeable instructors will guide you through the fundamentals of good presswork: inking, impression, and the quiet rhythm of pulling a print by hand.

No experience needed. Just two hands and a little curiosity.

What you will walk away with:

• 6 beautiful hand-printed greeting cards with matching envelopes
• A basic understanding of letterpress printing
• A glimpse into its rich, tactile history

All materials are supplied: paper, vegetable-based inks, use of our Vandercook proofing press. You'll also explore our curated collection of metal and wood type, unique vintage blocks, and you'll have time to design and print a card of your very own.

About Vandercook proofing press:

A Vandercook proofing press is a specific, highly-regarded type of cylinder proof press made for letterpress printing. Originally designed in 1909, it is a high-precision tool initially built for quality control, which has since become the gold standard for teaching and creating artisanal, small-batch prints. 

Porchlight Workshop Registration Policy

Cancellation and Refund:

• If you cancel 7 business days prior to the start of your workshop we will issue you a credit for the full amount.
• If you cancel less than 7 business days before the start of the class you will incur a $50 cancellation fee and have the rest of the amount issued to you as store credit.
• Porchlight Press reserves the right to cancel a class for any reason. You will be notified as soon as possible and will receive a choice of a full refund or store credit.

Credits: 

Credits are issued in the form of a gift certificate, it can go towards a future workshop, stationaries from our in house line or a custom print job with us. Credits must be used within one year from the date of the cancelled class.
