We are excited to team up with Maurelle of Maurelle Calligraphy and Design for our first collaborative workshop. We cannot imagine a more enticing combination! The morning will be spent learning brush calligraphy techniques which you can apply to the 15 greeting cards you will letterpress in the afternoon. This class will be an all-day event and packed with learning new skills as it will be the equivalent of two workshops in one!
Create beautiful brush script lettering! Learn the basic rules that you can eventually break to find your own style that translate your positive energy using pen and paper.
You will learn:
1. Essential tools to get started in Brush calligraphy
2. How to properly hold and write with the brush pen
3. Basic strokes you can practice
4. Practice writing lower case letters
5. Introduction in laying out your artwork

After lunch, you will dive right into printing! You will have a chance to get your hands on our incredible collection of antique woodblocks, movable type, printing presses and inks to create the cover of your 20 letterpress printed cards. Our team of friendly and dedicated instructors will guide you through the process of good presswork, inking and impression.

It can help to come prepared with a theme in mind for your card set or have a sentence or a saying you would want to do in the brushwork. You could make thank you cards, well wishes, for a birthday or even a simple greeting.
This class is capped at 11 students and requires a minimum of 6 to run. If the class should not fill up you will be notified in advance and a full refund will be issued or you can choose to attend a different class we have on offer here at Porchlight Press.
This workshop is perfect for beginners, and you do not need to have any prior experience with calligraphy or letterpress.
